Aztec Godess of the Maguey

Mayahuel lived in te sky with her evil grandmother, a tzintzimitl (evil stars enemies of the Sun). The beatiful young woman falls in love with Quetzalcoatl and runs away with him, her grandmother founds them under a tree, and sends her tzitzimime companions to kill them. both lovers tried to escape but Mayahuel is captured and murdered by the evil stars. Her remains are recovered by Quetzalcoatl, who buries them in a safe place, after doing so, from her remains borns the first Maguey plant.

How is it that a woman that becomes a Godess was of such importance for the aztecs? well the Maguey was a plant of abundance, many things were made out of the plant: Liquor, candy, clothing, materials, needles, paper, etc. Even today Mayahuel is related to the divine plant since Mescal and Tequila are made out of it.

Mayahuel is an example of love and sacrifice in ancient Mexico.

Diosa Azteca del Maguey

Mayahuel vivia en el cielo con su malvada abuela, una Tzitzimitl, (estrellas enemigas del Sol). La bella joven se enamora de Quetzalcoatl and huye con hel, si abuela, los descubre najo un árbol, y manda a sus compañeros tzitzimimes para matarlos. Ambos amantes tratan de escapar, pero Mayahuel es capturada y asesinada por las estrellas. Sus restos son recogidos por Quetzalcoatl quien los entierra, despues de hacer estom de sus restos nace la primera planta de Maguey.

Como es que una mujer convertida en Dios llego a ser de tanta importancia para los aztecas? bueno el Maguey era una planta de la abundancia, muchas cosas se hacian de la planta: licor, dulce, ropa, materiales, agujas, papel, etc. Incluso hoy en dia Mayahuel esta relacionada a la divina planta ya que el Mescal y el Tequila se obtienen de ella.

Mayahuel es un ejemplo de amor y sacrificio en Mexico antiguo
